Paul At 15% in Early Returns

April 22nd, 2008 9:11 pm by Chester Lunt ·

With 7% of precincts in, Ron Paul is pulling in a respectable 15%. McCain leads with 75%. This is shaping up to be his best primary performance to date, a title previously held by New Hampshire and Washington DC, where he achieved 8% at both. While he typically received between 10-20% at caucuses, most of the time he only achieved around 5%, so this is certainly an uptick.

As speculated earlier, the fact that the Republican side of the race is “uncontested” has helped keep turnout low for McCain, but Ron Paul supporters have showed up to vote just the same. On the Democratic side, it is an entirely different story, as they experienced record turnout. Most networks are calling the primary for Clinton, who currently leads 54-46.

It looks as though urban areas are reporting currently, so there exists a distinct possibility that Clinton could indeed pull out a double digit victory. That would fully legitimize her staying in, and shift momentum towards her and away from Obama.
