Last Thursday, the Freeport Republican Party held its latest meeting to discuss the impending Maine Convention which will occur early in May, and several other issues. One of the issues was the election of a new Town Chair. The previous Chair, Mark Bastey, had served as chair of the committee for many years, and had hoped to stay in the position through the November election.
However, for health reasons, he had to step down earlier then originally intended. In a unanimous vote, the committee voted to elect Bill Greene the new Town Chair. The position of Secretary/Treasurer was totally vacant, and also needed to be filled. I had stated I was interested in filling the position, and was also unanimously voted into the spot.
And as mentioned above, the Maine State GOP convention is rapidly nearing. It is set to occur over two days, beginning May 2nd and ending on May 3rd. The party platform will be set, as well as the national delegates picked. With both Mitt Romney and Cal Thomas slated as guest speakers, it is looking like it’s shaping up to be quite an interesting event.
